Hello
John V Kernaghan. (JVK)
Writer, cook, bit of a musician, sailor, one-time climber and mountaineer, wine maker, even bigger wine consumer!
My Story
I left school before I was sixteen without a formal education. I was both dyslexic and dumb. It's easier being a writer today with all the editing tools available, but AI is not infallible. I was recently writing about a security breech, which has more to do with a hole in one's trousers than the type of breach I was attempting to describe. One would also hope that AI would be smarter. What I failed to achieve in schooling, I was fortunate enough to compensate for with experience. I floated around for some years before I found a niche in business that took me to far-flung places like India, the Middle East, North Africa, the Himalayas, and New Zealand. I've had amazing adventures in business, as a mountaineer and skier and, in later life, as the sailor and owner of Tropical Delight, whose story you can read about on this site. Tropical Delight changed my life. Living on the ocean changed my life. I've always had an affinity to nature and existing in a reality that has been tempestuous and challenging. Nowadays, I'm retired with my French Canadian wife. We spend as much time in the summer as possible on TD and in the winter, we hunker down in our tiny fisherman's cottage and I write, enthused by the howling of the wind through all its nooks and crannies, and by the gales and rainstorms that sweep past our little Atlantic island.
My writing reflects my life. I hope it's full of colour, but I recognise the need for brutality. The world is built on brutality and counterbalanced (at least for some fortunate human beings) by compassion and humour. From ancient Britain to a distant, sci-fi future, with loads of intrigue, mystery, murder, and romantic adventure along the way, I hope to convey some of the stories that fire my imagination. Enjoy!
