The story is set between London, Paris and Milan in the early nineties – a period of significant money laundering and corruption in the booming construction industry. After its dark inception, the main interest revolves around Rollo Hastings, a man of exquisite style and taste, blighted by his Mafioso heritage, and Inspector Stella Crooke, a woman whose beauty and integrity are utterly enticing to Rollo who has become jaded by his hedonistic relationship with the virtuosa violinist, Vanessa Inge.
Vanessa’s murder brings the two characters together in a tale that reflects Partita; brutal and discordant, complex and highly stylised, yet consistently entertaining and satisfying on a level that I hope will appeal to a wide range of readers of the murder mystery genre.
